ENAMELING & MAKING THINGS
Enameling is literally the fusing of two of my favorite materials, metal and glass. The rich color, depth, play of light and surfaces of enameling, as well as its ancient roots, grips my attention and provides endless possibility—it is a process that allows one to make tiny works of art. I use many enameling techniques, with a special focus on cloisonné. Cloisonné is a process in which an image is developed by creating cells defined by silver wire, which are then filled with layer upon layer of kiln-fused glass. I also love to work with chain and wire, as well as, beads and other elements made of glass, precious and semi-precious stones, fur . . . . and I will happily repurpose vintage materials whenever something catches my eye—which means occasionally I'll work with plastic, wood, ceramic, porcelain, pewter, or with something that I just don’t know for sure what it is.
I love beauty and a bit of surprise—every one of my pieces is one-of-a-kind, and will hold a bit of both of those two qualities.
Currently, I am making jewelry, ornaments, buttons, trinket dishes, bookmarks, small hardware such as light switch plates, and more. These are developing along several lines, following paths that have gripped my attention . . . .

Cloisonné flower pendant, inspired by the way Arnold Lobel draws flowers.
One of a kind, handmade, fused glass on copper. Cloisonné is an enameling technique in which flat silver wire is used to define cells (cloisonné gets it's name from the French word for cell), these cells are then filled layer by layer of fused glass--with transparent, translucent, and opaque glass in gorgeous colors creating depth and light play.
